Punishing your customers bad; allowing corrupt manufacturer practices; Minimum Advertised Price

By Wilbur Corncob at 06/20/09 12:49

To: byron@vitalityplus1.com

Today, I ordered a [404 Check: was link to http:/ / sproutman. com/ index. php?main_ page=product_ info&cPath=2&products_ id=41, anchor: Sproutman's Soil-Free Wheatgrass Grower] . However, I didn't order it from you, and I chose to spend $10 more than you sell that item for. Here's why.

I had the item in your shopping cart and was ready to check out. I then noticed you offer the "EasyGreen Automatic - Easy Seed Sprouter". That caught my interest, not because I want one (I build my own), but a friend has been looking.

After reading the information, I noticed the price was lacking. When I clicked to get the price I got into a bunch of nonsense about having to email or phone for the price. Now for someone claiming to have a 'best price matching system', I almost died laughing.

But on a serious note, it is clear that the manufacturer of that item is engaged in price fixed (though they will call it minimum advertised price). And, it appears you go along with them. It is one of the most anti-consumer things a business can do... offer product information, but no price or method to purchase!

In the online businesses I work with, we cut off manufacturers that engage in such corrupt practices, instead of misleading or frustrating out customers.

So, I choice not to do any business with you, because of your extremely poor presentation of the "EasyGreen Automatic - Easy Seed Sprouter", regardless of the reason. I consider the extra $10 I spent today to be well spent money.

Thanks,
but no thanks.

No problem what so ever, it is your choice. Someone else will get your spend your $10

My thoughts... in a down economy it is especially bad to punish your customers (or potential customers). Just treat them fairly, give them all the details and prices up front. Those with money to spend may (and will) choice to spend it elsewhere if you don't.

I am happy that "someone else" will get to spend my $10. Because I felt treated fairly in the transaction.

Dear Wilbur Corncob,

I came across your note regarding your shopping experience. We the manufacturers of the EasyGreen MikroFarm sprouter operate in an open market, our resellers are free to conduct their business in any manner they chose. I wouldn't like your note to reflect in the manufacturer or the product. our company is operating since 1996 with an excellent product performance and service reputation. The EasyGreen MikroFarm is regarded as the best automatic sprouter in the world. It performs functions no other sprouter can rival. It took us long years, hard work and attention to details to build ourselves a brand name. Our sprouting equipment is now sold in over 32 countries around the world. It sadden us your shopping experience was disappointing. If we, the manufacturers, can be of any further assistance, please let me know at sol@easygreen.com

Respectfully,

Sol Azulay.

When a website offers online ordering and doesn't offer prices or a product, instead requiring you to fill out some contact form to get a price... then yes I have something much better to do than make a purchase... complain about how I was treated by that website / business.
